YOUR VOTE COULD
MAKE THE DIFFERENCE
My beloved brothers and sisters in Christ, in just a few short days we will have the opportunity to make a significant difference in the society that we live in if we will take seriously our right to exercise what so many of our ancestors gave their life’s blood for…our right and freedom to vote.
I know it can be frustrating because there are times that the candidate selection is slim. At times it seems as though the only candidates we have on the ballot is “worse” and “worser!” But it is still extremely important for us to vote. Why? I believe you would agree that it would be much better to have candidate “worse” in office than candidate “worser” any day, and our vote could make the difference.
In other words if you truly feel that there is not a qualified candidate who is spiritually mature, vote for one whose personal principles and platform most nearly agree with your own Biblically based Christian position.
Maybe it will help if we looked at this issue from another angle. I don’t know if you’ve noticed but our freedom to serve God and proclaim the gospel is in jeopardy. I know that one of the reasons is all the work the devil is doing to destroy our witness and silence us. Another reason is the fact that we have failed to put into office people who are Christians or who are sympathetic to our cause. We’ve forgotten the importance of being politically involved and how important our influence is. We’ve forgotten that elected officials depend on the vote of the people and they listen to those individuals and groups that vote and speak out on the issues.
My point! Your “one” vote is extremely important, and if cast, it can make a difference. Allow me to illustrate: Every year in this nation election after election is won or lost because of one vote! In fact, according to one small study some have been lost or won by less than one vote per precinct. Think about it! In 1948, Lyndon B. Johnson was elected to the U.S. Senate by 87 votes out of 988,295 votes cast in 6,000 precincts. Statisticians tell us that figures out to 1/69th of a vote per precinct. In 1960, John F. Kennedy defeated Richard M. Nixon by 113,000 votes. That equals out to about one half vote per precinct. You see, our vote can and does make a difference. But it won’t make a difference if we sit around and complain about the bad leaders we have in office and we don’t vote.
So please, don’t miss the opportunity that the Lord has given you to serve Him at the polls. And as you vote, please keep in mind that we are voting because we want a Nation that is willing to live by the principles that are espoused in the Word of God. A Nation that will reflect God’s principles in her homes, in her schools, in her courts, in her work place, in her neighborhoods, and even in her political meetings.
One final thought before I close. As you prepare to go to the polls please remember to ask God to make changes and remove from office godless and carnal men and women. Ask God to place people in office who will desire to please the Creator of this universe…God! And as you vote, remember your vote could make the difference. And your failure to vote could put a bad politician in office.
